What does Magic Bookmark's audiobook update do for ADHD listeners?

Version 1.1.1 of Magic Bookmark, released on the App Store on 27 October 2026, adds audiobook support: you type the last phrase you heard and get a recap, a cast list and spoiler-free answers up to that point. It covers only titles on the app's supported list, and it runs on iPhone. We have not tested the audiobook flow; this dispatch is based on the App Store listing and the developer's website.

What changed on 27 October?

The App Store notes for version 1.1.1 read, in full: "Now with audiobook support: get spoiler-free recaps for any book format." Before this update, the app found your place by a photo of the page you were on or a page number you typed. Now, for audiobooks, you enter the last phrase you heard instead. (App Store listing)

Everything after that step works as it does for print and ebooks. Magic Bookmark gives you a recap that stops at your place, a cast list built only from what you have reached, and a chat where you can ask questions about the story so far. You can also type @ and a character's name to ask that character a question; the character only knows the story up to your place. (magicbookmark.com)

One version earlier, version 1.1 on 21 October, the app added a flow for finishing a book and moving on to the next one. Version history on the US App Store begins with 1.0.1 on 20 August 2026, so this is a young app that is changing quickly.

Why does this matter for ADHD listeners?

Audiobooks are where many ADHD readers do most of their reading, and they have one specific failure: you zone out, the narrator keeps going, and you surface ten minutes later with no idea who is talking. In research on mind wandering, the kind that happens without your choosing was closely tied to ADHD symptoms. (Seli et al., 2015) An audiobook does not wait for you to come back.

The usual fixes are rewinding blind or giving up on the book. A recap that stops at the last line you remember is a third option: catch up without hearing what comes next. Our method for this, with or without an app, is When you zone out during an audiobook.

How does it work, according to the listing?

  1. Open the book in Magic Bookmark. It has to be a title on the app's supported list; you can request others in the app.
  2. Type the last phrase you remember hearing.
  3. Read the recap, check the cast list, or ask a question such as "wait, are they together yet?"
  4. Press play again from where you stopped, or rewind a little to the phrase you typed.

What does it cost, and what are the limits?

How does it compare with Kindle's recaps?

Amazon's Story So Far gives a spoiler-free recap up to where you stopped, free, for thousands of popular fiction titles, inside Kindle ebooks on Kindle devices and the Kindle iOS app in the US. (Amazon) If your book is a Kindle ebook, start there. Amazon's announcement describes Kindle ebooks, not audiobooks you are listening to elsewhere or a paperback on your nightstand. That gap is the one Magic Bookmark aims at, for the titles it supports. Our dispatch on Kindle Recaps and Story So Far has the details.

Should you try it?

Check the supported list first; if your audiobook is not on it, the update does nothing for you yet. If it is, the first book is free, which makes it a low-risk test on the series you keep losing track of. Our Magic Bookmark review scores it 65/100 as a listing-based desk review, flagged provisional, with a BORROW FIRST verdict. Nothing in this update changes that score until we test it.
