Open device or closed device: the real question
The Boox Palma runs Android, so it can hold every reading app you use: Kindle, Libby, Hoopla, a read-it-later app, a text-to-speech app. The Kindle Paperwhite runs Amazon's reading software and little else. For most readers, more apps sounds better. For ADHD readers, it depends on one honest question: if a device can install a feed, will you install it?

If you choose the Palma: the lock-down routine
- Install reading apps only: your ebook stores, your library apps, your read-it-later app, one audio app.
- Do not sign in to a browser account, and remove the browser from the home screen.
- Turn off notifications for every app, including the reading ones.
- Keep Wi-Fi off while reading; download books before you start.
- If you ever install a social app, uninstall it the same day. The device's whole value is that it is not your phone.
If you choose the Kindle: the settings ritual
